The Cyril and Methodius Media Collection – is a unique software edition which is based on using of the technology combining global and local network resources (technology of the hybrid Internet providing prompt actualization of text materials on the Internet and access to media of large capacity). CM Media Collection is extremely useful especially for libraries for the blind as a great reference data base. Unfortunately, nowadays CM Media Collection software doesn’t combine with screen readers. But in case of some activities in its adaptation and because of CM Media Collection text files available on the web-server it will become readable for screen reader software in contrast to CD versions. By the assistance of screen reader software patrons will able to “read” encyclopedias articles and receive unique reference data without any human assistance.

In addition, CM Media Collection contains a huge amount of audio files, which presents typical sounds of different geographical areas, voices of famous persons and also animals and birds, comments to video files. All this audio collection became also available for blind patrons.

Planning activities in adaptation:

  • optimizing of the CM Media Collection interface: replacement of some program elements to facilitate texts perception by visually-impaired users;
  • optimizing of interaction with media objects: possibility to read fragments of complete text, possibility to read content of tables, ect.
